What is Amazon S3?

Amazon S3 is a data storage service that you can use to store and retrieve data for different usage situations, such as static data used on a webpage or mobile phone applications, backup, internal data storage, and long-term data backup. Accordingly, Amazon S3 enjoys different storage levels to adapt to different potential usage situations.

Standard storage is intended for situations requiring significant availability and frequent access.
Standard is not intended for situations that require significant availability, although frequent access is not required, such as backups or personal data that users provide for inactive accounts.
Ice storage is intended to archive data in cases where access is allowed from minutes to hours.

Lifecycle management is available to change the display of data to different storage levels in order to reduce storage costs.

As with other AWS products, invoices are based on the pay-per-use model, eliminating the need for prepayments for capacity. Payments are charged monthly to GB of stored data, plus additional GET, POST, PUT, LIST, and other assistive charges.

Prices vary between the three levels according to data priority. Currently in the US-East region, standard storage starts at $ 0.023 per GB versus 50 terabytes with discounts thereafter. Storage starts with non-recurring access at $ 0.0125 per gigabyte, and the ice storage starts at $ 0.004 per GB.

Why Amazon Matters S3?

The task of planning and building a data storage solution on site is very difficult, especially if you take into account maintenance tasks and data safety risks. Different factors, such as different ways of failure of hard drives and related equipment, fluctuations in the spot market of tablets, and the long-term nature of the management of such equipment, can make the probability of such a gathering unpleasant. In addition to these technical reasons, local storage in office buildings in urban centers is not particularly effective for physical space, given the high cost of rental and utilities in many regions of the world.

By moving this process to Amazon S3, you can dramatically reduce storage costs as well as management tasks. Regular maintenance tasks, such as backup operations and the zone, can be performed using the Web-based management interface. Amazon S3 supports encrypted data as well as HTTPS connections for content hosted on web pages.
